Our Mission
Our mission is to combat the rising incidence of cancer and chronic diseases in Africa. Millions of Africans suffer from undiagnosed and untreated cancer, sickle cell disease, hypertension, diabetes, heart and kidney ailments, and other chronic diseases. Most of these patients do not have access to proper and adequate medical care. In areas where medical services are available, the quality of the service is usually substandard due to the lack of modern diagnostic equipment, trained medical staff, effective drug therapies and medicines in general.
The current state of medical care in Africa, particularly sub-saharan Africa, is dismal and results in untold human suffering and extremely high mortality rates. Over the past two decades, different organizations have mobilized to fight malaria, HIV Aids, Yellow Fever and other tropical diseases in Africa. However, little has been done to stem the scourge of cancer and chronic diseases in this part of the world.
Our organization is committed to form partnership and alliances with pharmaceutical companies, independent medical groups, health care providers, and all interested persons, to effectively combat cancer and chronic diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our mission includes the following:
- Establishment of cancer and chronic disease diagnostic centers;
- Setting up of local clinics and partnerships with local health care facilities for the distribution of life saving medications;
- Public health education on the prevention of cancer and chronic diseases.
Our objective is to provide access to quality health care to the under-served people of Africa, regardless of their economic or financial circumstances. Our intention is to reduce human suffering and increase life expectancy.
Our Story
As a native of Nigeria, Dr. Olukemi Wallace knew from the time she was a girl that she wanted to help others. She witnessed pain and suffering within her own country and the need for people to have access to medical care. In partnership with Mr. Edi M.O. Fall, Esq. and Ambassador George Haley, Dr. Wallace founded Africa Cancer Treatment in 2005. |

Her mission was simple: to combat the rising incidence of cancer and chronic diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. But how would this be done? Through the creation of cancer treatment centers, mobile units and education programs that would be available to anyone regardless of economic or social circumstance.
Where to begin? Through the founder’s connections, it was decided that The Gambia was a good place to target the first services and clinics. Dr. Wallace recognized that she could not achieve this dream alone, and set forth a plan to engage and inspire others into partnership with Africa Cancer Treatment. The organization’s key areas of focus are:
- Development and delivery of education programs
- Establish the means and equipment for screening and diagnosis
- Establish and operate local cancer clinics
It is in partnership with local government agencies in The Gambia, NGO’s, pharmaceutical companies, medical equipment manufacturers, healthcare providers and other agencies that Africa Cancer Treatment will one day achieve its goal. But we must begin one step at a time. Following is a summary of our plan for the coming year, our needs, and the ways in which you can help Africa Cancer Treatment reduce the incidence of cancer and chronic diseases in sub-Saharan Africa.
